TRADITIONAL LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Acknowledging the land where we gather…

Stage West Calgary acknowledges that our craft is a Eurocentric art which has greatly enabled and encouraged the discrimination and exclusion of many communities throughout history. We strive to actively work against this systemic exclusion by creating safe, equal-opportunity workspaces, and art that is a visible representation of our diverse world and community.

We acknowledge that we do this work on traditional territories, and are grateful to have the opportunity to continue to create, perform, and welcome community, on this land. Stage West Theatre operates within the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai First Nations), as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations).

The City of Calgary is also home to the Metis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, and all others who call this place home.
